Digital Construction Week 2024

Digital Construction Week – in the context of what we do at The Sourcing Collective we found:

Women in BIM

The panel discussion by Women in BIM on ‘Managing egos, conflict and disengagement when implementing new technology’ was very thought provoking, which made us reflect on the challenges here in the UK but also internationally and how we can do our part to move that discussion forward. The challenges women face in the construction and architecture industry are still prevalent. However, when reading advice from successful women in the industry, it seems to follow a positive direction of women encouraging other women to have confidence in themselves and not be afraid to ask for what they believe they deserve. The quote from  Jillian Jones, a team leader at DRDH Architects seems to say it best:

“Find a practice where you feel supported and inspired and don’t accept being underestimated or bullied. Don’t sacrifice everything for the architectural cause.”

The use of AI in architecture

The panel session on ‘The use of AI in architectural practice’ fascinating, getting insights on how Benoy, Foster + Partners, Heatherwick studio, TP Bennett and Zaha Hadid Architects were utilising AI but also the panel’s view on the trajectory of AI within the industry.

To further our knowledge on the matter, we listened to Tim Fu’s discussion on the BlessedArch YouTube channel. Tim Fu, who has worked at Zaha Hadid Architects, is continuously looking for methods to integrate AI into architectural practice.

From using Midjourney for design interactions to implementing clever methods to avoid repetitive work, archive information or produce better documentation, AI is here to stay and we need to embrace it sooner rather than later to stay connect to the latest technology that can better our work.  We believe a good summary to Ai in architecture can be read in an  insightful article published by the RIBA, which highlights the basic of AI in architecture:
